"Thank
you for visiting the ITAC web site. The Industry Technical Advisory
Committee is a unique international oil spill organization consisting
of technical experts from the oil industry, large oil spill cleanup
organizations, and other technical organizations that respond to or
do research on oil spills. The group is a focal point for oil spill
response experts to share their expertise and develop common approaches
to oil spill response technical issues.
On this site you will find projects
being conducted and technical documents prepared by the committee,
videos showing various aspects of oil spill response, and information
on upcoming meetings and conferences. I hope you find them useful."

WHAT
IS ITAC
|
|
| ITAC
is the Industry Technical Advisory Committee for Oil Spill Response.
ITAC members are drawn from the response community of the oil industry,
response organisations and other parties that have oil pollution response
and preparedness as their principal goal.
The purpose of ITAC is to act as
a focal point for technical issues and as a forum for information
exchange in the areas of preparedness, oil spill response operations,
response technology, and response training. This role is undertaken
on behalf of the response community and the oil company shareholders
of the industry owned response organisations.

|
| KEY
OBJECTIVES |
|
Increase co-operation between industry sponsored response organisations
to ensure that a common industry approach to response philosophies
is achieved and to obtain greater overall value from the investment
made by the industry.
- Be a forum in which to benchmark
standards across the response industry in the areas of:
1) Response standards
2) Training standards
3) Personnel competence levels
- Be a forum to share best practice
amongst response community
- Be a forum to share equipment
performance criteria
- Be a centralised group that can
be used by the industry as a focal point for up to date information
on the current oil spill response activities in the different
areas of the world. The forum can be used to ensure that there
is not duplication of effort, and a common consistent approach
to the activity. In that respect, ITAC provides technical support
to the IPIECA Oil Spill Working Group for the conduct and delivery
of technical aspects of their work.
- Be an internationally recognised
forum not only among the oil and response industry but also for
governments and international organisations such as the IMO.
